When you decide to go solar, the first technical question is: which system type? There are three: on-grid, hybrid, and off-grid. Each solves a different problem. Choosing the wrong one means either overpaying or ending up with a system that doesn't meet your needs.
How Each Type Works
On-Grid System
Panels generate power → inverter converts it → you use it directly. When the sun isn't enough, you draw from the grid. No batteries, which means lower cost and faster payback. Limitation: when the grid goes down, the system stops — a safety requirement to prevent current flowing into lines where workers might be present.
Hybrid System
Everything an on-grid system does, plus a battery. Panels charge the battery during the day and power your home or business. At night or during outages, the battery takes over. When the battery is depleted, the system switches back to the grid. Maximum flexibility with a longer payback period.
Off-Grid System
Complete independence from the grid. No Uzbekenergo connection. The system must cover 100% of your needs — including nights and cloudy days — which requires significantly larger battery capacity. Justified only where grid connection is unavailable or cost-prohibitive.
Side-by-Side Comparison
| Factor | On-Grid | Hybrid | Off-Grid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Works during power outages | ❌ No | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes |
| Battery storage | ❌ No | ✅ Yes | ✅ Large |
| Price (10 kW system) | ~$4,200 | ~$9,900 | ~$14,000+ |
| Payback period | 3.5–5 years | 7–10 years | 12–15 years |
| Best for | City, stable grid | Business, frequent outages | Remote locations |
Which Should You Choose?
Choose on-grid if outages are rare and your priority is reducing your electricity bill with the fastest ROI.
Choose hybrid if outages affect your business or daily life, and uninterrupted power has real value beyond just the electricity savings.
Choose off-grid only if there is no grid connection available at your site.
